he Ukrainian Journal of International Law covers the most pressing legal issues and provides the reader with high-quality scientific articles and analytical materials.
The editorial policy of the journal is based on international standards of academic publication.

The editorial board guarantees:

The editorial board is guided by modern principles of open science: FAIR (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, Reuse of digital assets), Open Science, Plan S and the use of AI exclusively on the basis of academic integrity in accordance with Elsevier's policy on the use of generative AI.

Principles of Open Science (FAIR)

• All articles and scientific materials published in the Ukrainian Journal of International Law have clear metadata and permanent identifiers (in particular, DOI), and are posted in the open access on the Journal's website.
• Users can easily access data published in the Journal, in particular in the Archive on its website; the Ukrainian Journal of International Law does not publish data with restricted access.
• Data are presented in commonly used formats, which allows their integration with other datasets and programs.
• All data (articles and scientific materials) published in the Journal can be reused; they have a detailed description (metadata) and a clear license, which facilitates their use in new research.

The journal's policy complies with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), EASE Guidelines, Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing, Publishing Ethics Resource Kit for Editors, the San Francisco Declaration on Research Evaluation (DORA), and WAME (regarding the principles of editorial policy).

Open Access and Archiving Policy

The journal adheres to the principles of open access.
The journal's editorial board supports the Budapest Open Access Initiative and the UNESCO Open Access Recommendations.
All articles are available free of charge for reading, downloading and sharing.
This complies with the standards of the Directory of Open Access Journals.
The journal adheres to the OpenAIRE Guidelines - European standards for open access to scientific publications, namely: all articles have structured metadata for search engines and scientific repositories, publications are compatible with international identification systems (DOI, ORCID), archiving and accessibility of articles in XML, PDF and HTML formats is provided, which allows them to be conveniently read and processed by automated systems.
The editorial board of the Ukrainian Journal of International Law allows the author to store (deposit) the final version of the article (Author's Accepted Manuscript (AAM)) in an institutional or thematic repository, where it is available in the open access, which ensures maximum visibility and impact of the publication.
The full texts of the articles are available on the official website of the journal (Archive). Electronic copies of the publication are stored in the V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine and on the HeinOnline platform, which guarantees reservation and open access according to international standards of digital preservation.
The use and (or) distribution of any materials published in the Ukrainian Journal of International Law are possible only if a link is provided to them indicating the author(s) (if any), the issue and year of publication of the journal and the relevant pages.

Policy on the use of artificial intelligence and technologies supporting it

The editorial board of the journal adheres to the "Recommendations on the use of artificial intelligence in scholarly communication" (EASE).
The use of artificial intelligence to generate part or the full text of an article or scientific material, create a list of sources, etc. is contrary to the principles of academic integrity and is unacceptable.
Articles or scientific materials that meet such criteria will be rejected.

Policy on obtaining a binding conclusion in research conducted with the involvement of people, animals or their biological materials, personal or confidential data

The Ukrainian Association of International Law proceeds from the unconditionality and absoluteness of the human right to dignity, enshrined in particular in Art. 3 of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, Art. 1 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU and Art. 7 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
Also, the UAIL and the editorial board of the Ukrainian Journal of International Law proceed from the fact that when conducting any scientific research, the principles and standards of animal treatment that guarantee their well-being must be observed.
• Scientific materials that are the result of research involving humans or human biomaterials, submitted to the Editorial Board of the Ukrainian Journal of International Law, must contain
the name of the institution where the research was conducted, the number and date of the protocol or conclusion of the ethics committee,
information on obtaining informed consent or a reasoned refusal with a reference to the decision of the ethics committee;
• The journal does not accept for consideration scientific materials that are the result of research on animals, except for an assurance that such research did not provoke physical or psychological suffering, or any discomfort to the animal, which must be confirmed by the conclusion of the relevant ethics committee, which states:
the name of the ethics committee or body, number and date of approval;
• If scientific material (article) submitted to the editorial office of the "Ukrainian Journal of International Law" contain personal data and (or) confidential information, the Editorial Office of the Journal has the right to demand:
– the status of the data (personal, pseudonymized or anonymized), legal grounds for processing and basic protection measures;
– confirmation of compliance with the Law of Ukraine "On Personal Data Protection" and the requirements for confidential information;
– a copy of the conclusion or protocol of the ethics committee;
– a sample form of informed consent or information letter;
– documentary confirmation of the legality of access to data or biomaterials (contracts, permits, decisions, etc.).

Academic Integrity Policy

Unethical behavior includes:
- plagiarism, falsification or fabrication of data;
- submission of the same manuscript to several publications simultaneously;
- inaccurate citation or copyright infringement.

Any person may report suspected unethical behavior by providing substantiated evidence. The Editorial Board considers all reports confidentially. The Editorial Board undertakes to verify the facts and evidence and make a decision on each case.

Consequences of violations

In case of confirmation of unethical behavior, the following measures may be applied:
- informing the author, reviewer or other participants in the publication process about the detection of the fact of unethical behavior;
- publication of an official notification of the case of improper behavior;
- withdrawal of the publication from the journal and informing the relevant organizations that index the publication;
- temporary official ban on accepting materials from the author-violator;
- consideration of the case in official or judicial bodies in case of serious violations.

Retraction procedure

Retraction (withdrawal of a published article or scientific material) is carried out in the event of:
- detection of plagiarism;
- detection of the use of artificial intelligence at least in part of the article or scientific material;
- the article or scientific material was previously published in other publications;
- detection of fabrication and falsification;
- there is a violation of other ethical principles of publication.
The retraction procedure complies with the standards of the EASE Retraction Form.

Complaints

The consideration of complaints is based on the rules of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
Any complaint is considered by the editor-in-chief. Within 7 working days, the editor-in-chief must consider the complaint on its merits and send a response to the applicant by e-mail.
For a more complete conclusion, the editor-in-chief creates a Commission of three members of the editorial board.
When considering complaints, the Commission is based on the following rules:
- granting all interested parties the right to present their arguments in support of or refuting the stated claims;
- duly informing participants of the editorial process about the receipt and consideration of such an appeal that will affect their rights and/or interests;
- impartiality.
